Frank Stewart's Nexus - The Phillips Collection
Frank Stewart is an American photographer who got is start using his mom's camera to photograph the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963 when he was 14 years old. Throughout his career he travelled all over the world, most notably New Orleans, the Caribbean, and parts of Africa, photographing music, religion, and climate change. This exhibit was particularly amazing because he wrote the descriptions for all the photos since he is still alive. In his captions he often talks about "painting" with photography and this approach is so apparent with the way he plays with shapes and textures, colors and reflections. Thanks to my friend Erin Delaney for bringing me to this collection (she knows me so well). Visited August 2023.
The Phillips Collection
After geeking out about the amazing Frank Stewart exhibit at the Phillips Collection, Erin and I quickly perused the rest of the house so I could get my fill of landscapes and Georgia O'Keefe. Visited August 2023.
